You Heard it Here First
I'm starting to work on my third book. (There--whew!--I've said it). Writing a book is an interesting process (Jim Kouzes once told me that a friend of his described it as "sitting down at the keyboard and staring at the screen until blood breaks out on your forehead"): it's frustrating, exhausting, intimidating and terrifying, punctuated with momentary flashes of luminous insight and thunderous exhilaration. Momentary. It's that occasional moment, though, and, hopefully, the quality of the end product, that makes the whole travail worthwhile.
To up the ante, this time around I'll be posting pieces of the book as I go. Right here on this very blog. Just the thought of it, frankly, gives me goosebumps. And not the good kind, either. But really, though, I'm [insert nervous laughter here] really looking forward blogging some of it as I go. Really. [Insert throat-clearing cough].
Here's what I know so far:
1. It'll be another story. I wrestled with this a bit, but I decided to stay with the novel/parable/fable genre--along the lines of Leap and Edge, but with different characters in a different setting--mainly because it is, previous comments aside, a lot more fun for me to write than a "straight-up" business book.
2. The working title is Greater Than Yourself. In it, I'll be exploring the ideas that I've put on this site of late. Read the related posts here and here and here.
3. It'll will be published in 2008 by (sound the trumpets) Currency (as in Doubleday as in Random House). Editorial Director, Roger Scholl, is a great guy who's a fan of my first two books and really gets the idea behind this one. He also publishes the books by my buds Mark Sanborn (The Fred Factor and You Don't Need a Title to be a Leader) and Keith Ferrazzi (Never Eat Alone), so I'm glad to be in such good company.
And, as always, I will be deeply grateful for your input, encouragement, and--ahem--constructive feedback along the way.

That's great news Steve, and great fun for us. Seeing pieces of a book come together isn't on par with writing it, but exciting, non the less.
